In case of a lost or broken phone, you may set up multifactor authentication codes on your Mac Laptop.

Setting Up Authentication Codes on Mac Laptop

Note: these steps work on the newest versions of Mac laptops, such as MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. This solution only works on wi-fi and thus is not recommended as a permanent solution.

These steps can be followed during the first time MFA setup or after an MFA reset.

1. On your laptop, search for Passwords application and open it.
2. In Passwords section, click + button to add new credentials.
3. Enter SHU or Sacred Heart for name.
4. Enter your full SHU email (such as doej2@mail.sacredheart.edu).
5. Enter your SHU password.
6. Save the credentials.
7. Go to your MFA setup screen, select "Use another authenticator app".
8. Click Next.
9. Right-click on the QR code and open it in a new tab.
10. Use the Screenshot app, to screenshot just the QR code. Save the screenshot of the QR code to your device.
11. Back in Passwords, find the credentials and select Set Up Code.
12. Provide the QR code you saved earlier on your device.
13. Save the settings.
14. Click next in MFA setup to test the MFA.
15. In Passwords app go to Codes.
16. You will see a 6 digit rotating code.
17. Enter the code to complete the sign in.
18. When you sign in, you will now have an option to use codes from Passwords app to sign in.
