How to Create a Recording in Stream

Occasionally, you may need to create a short recording of yourself or of your screen. Microsoft 365 includes Stream, which is a simple recording tool you can use to accomplish this. Stream will save your recording in your OneDrive account so you can easily find it and share it with others.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Microsoft Stream at https://stream.office.com and sign in using your SHU account.
  2. If you already have a video file to upload, click the Upload tile in the Create new section of the page and select the file to upload.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. If you do not have a video file already, click either Screen recording or Camera recording.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Use the Camera and Mic buttons to enable/disable and click the down arrow next to each to select the source
  5. Click the Script button at the bottom to paste text into an on-screen teleprompter
  6. The Effects button contains a number of other creative effects such as text or filters.
  7. If you chose Screen recording, adjust the location, size and shape of your video insert:
    • Drag the handles to resize
    • Drag the box to move it to a different part of the screen
    • Click the button near the bottom of your image to cycle through different shapes
    • Click the X in the upper right corner to remove your video
  8. If you chose Camera recording, select a Backdrop if desired.

Adding a Transcript to your Video

  1. After uploading or recording your video, Stream will attempt to automatically generate a transcript.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  2. Once the transcript is generated, you can review it by clicking the Transcript icon on the right side of the video details page.
  3. If the transcript is accurate, no further action is needed.
  4. If you need to edit the transcript for accuracy, hover over the section of the transcript that needs revision and click the Edit button. Your edits will remain timestamped with the video so that the edited text will appear at the related time in the video.
