How to Grade an Assignment in Blackboard Ultra

Instructors can provide feedback to students on their performance in assessments, including detailed explanations of correct answers or general feedback. Additionally, Blackboard calculates scores automatically for certain question types, saving instructors time in grading.

Procedure

  1. Enter your course.
  2. In the top navigation, select Gradebook.
  3. Select the Overview tab. A list of assignments that need to be graded will appear. 
  4. Select Grade Now next to the assignment you would like to grade.

  5. The first student submission will appear along with two panels, one on the left and one on the right. The panel on the left will give you the option to view a submission by an individual student, or by question. This panel is also used to move to the next student when grading. 
  6. When expanded, the right is where you can provide feedback to your student. You can use the various features in the text editor to provide different types of feedback such as recorded feedback or upload additional supporting files. 
  7. If a compatible document has been submitted, you will see a tool bar above with various tools to assist your grading. The table below highlights the tools available. 
    Draw Ability to markup the paper using the pen, brush or eraser functionality. Additional settings available based on selection to change markup color, fill color, opacity, and thickness.
    Image ​Ability to add an image or stamp to the document.
    Comment Ability to add comments to the document for the student to review.
    Text ​Ability to add textboxes to the document with additional information for the student.
    Line Ability to add shapes and graphics to the document including line, arrow, rectangle, ellipse, polygon and polyline.
    Print Ability to print the document including annotations
    Download Ability to download the student submission to the local computer including annotations.
  8. In the top right corner you will see a textbox available to enter the grade for the student. 
  9. Once you have finished grading the student's work, select the next student listed on the left side panel to proceed grading the next submission.
