Communicate via SMS to your Students using Qwickly in Blackboard Ultra

Qwickly SMS messaging in Blackboard Ultra can be a valuable tool for instructors to communicate with students efficiently. It is recommended to use this feature for urgent notifications such as informing students about class cancellations, emergency situations, or last-minute changes to class schedules.

Students: Register Phone Number

  1. Login to MySHU (https://myshu.sacredheart.edu) using your SHU E-mail and password. 
  2. On the left-hand navigation, select Tools.
  3. Select Qwickly Course Tools
  4. From the left-hand navigation, select SMS Register Phone
  5. Enter your phone number using the format displayed on screen. 
  6. Select Next
  7. A verification code will be sent to your device. Enter the code in the textbox provided. 
  8. After entering the code, you will see a green banner appear that confirms your mobile number is registered to receive SMS texts from your instructors regarding important course updates
  9. You can close the window. 

Instructors: Send SMS Message to Students

  1. Login to MySHU (https://myshu.sacredheart.edu) using your SHU E-mail and password. 
  2. On the left-hand navigation, select Tools.
  3. Select Qwickly Course Tools
  4. From the left-hand navigation, select SMS Text.
  5. Select one or more courses from the left-hand side you would like to send the SMS message to. 
  6. Once you select at least one course, a textbox will appear. Enter the message you would like to send. 
  7. Select Next.
  8. A review summary will appear. If you would like to make a change, select back. If you are satisfied with the summary, select submit to send. 

Additional Information and Reminders

  1. SMS messages are limited to 130 characters and do not support the use of emojis at this time. 
  2. SMS messages will come from +1-(833)-575-0088
  3. SMS messaging to student is an opt-in feature, and students need to provide their phone number to receive the message. If they do not opt-in, they will receive the communication via email. 
  4. SMS messages can only be sent to the entire class roster, not individual students. 
  5. Instructors cannot see the phone number entered by the student and the phone number can only be used for this tool.
