Symptoms

  • The Horizons YTD Report in Synoptix only returns data for the most recent 10 fiscal years.
  • When run as of the current year (e.g., FY 2026), the report only shows data back to FY 2016.
  • Earlier years (e.g., 2012–2014) do not appear, even though they existed in prior Synoptix exports.
  • Running the same report with an earlier end date may surface older data, but the output always spans a rolling 10‑year window.
 

 

What Was Verified

The following were confirmed during investigation:

  • ✅ Financial transactions for the missing years still exist in Colleague.
  • ✅ No Synoptix report formulas, parameters, or filters were changed.
  • ✅ Account status (active/frozen), company selection, and report variables were not restricting data.
  • ✅ Prior‑year Synoptix Excel exports included the missing historical years.
  • ✅ The Synoptix data mart was successfully updating (validated via FRXL).

This ruled out report configuration, user error, and internal data loss.

 

 

Root Cause

Ellucian confirmed that the FRXE (Financial Reporting Export) process in Colleague is limited to exporting only 10 fiscal years of data, including all open fiscal years.

Key points:

  • FRXE controls what financial data is exported from Colleague into the Synoptix data mart.
  • Only the most recent 10 fiscal years are included in each export.
  • Synoptix reporting is therefore limited to the data made available by FRXE, even if older data remains in Colleague.

This is current product behavior, not a configuration issue.

 

 

Vendor Confirmation

Ellucian Product Support confirmed:

  • FRXE cannot be run for more than 10 fiscal years.
  • This limit applies universally and cannot be adjusted by institutions.
  • An enhancement request already exists to expand this capability.
