This article contains the steps to create a new Major code on Colleague including all of the user fields that must be populated on the MAJR screen.
Creating a new major code in Colleague
- Log in to Colleague and go to the MAJR screen.
- At the Major Lookup type the code you want to create for the new major. If a code comes up with a different major, you will need to choose a new code, if the code does not exist, click A to add.
- Type the description of the major code. This description will appear on the academic program and the student's transcript when they graduate.
- Enter the Division code which is the code for the College the major falls under (AS, BU, ED, HP, NU).
- Enter a Yes to mark the new major code active.
- Enter the CIP code in the National ID field. If the CIP does not exist, use the instructions in this article: How to Add/Update CIP Codes in Colleague
- In User Field 1 choose the academic level in which the major can be used:
- U = Undergraduate Only
- G = Graduate Only
- A = Both UG and GR academic levels
- C = Non-Credit Only
- In User FIeld 3, enter the Math Placement course for incoming Freshmen to be enrolled in. This is used by Infosilem Web App and Infosilem for freshmen scheduling. All UG majors must have a value. This can be kept blank for GR only majors.
- In User FIeld 5, if the major code is 5 characters or more, you must get a 4 character code from Student Financial Assistance to enter in this field so that the major will map properly to the PowerFAIDS system. If this is not populated and the code is more than 4 characters, this will cause a data model failure in the Data Warehouse.
Note: If an undergraduate and graduate program that would seem to have the same major have different CIP codes, you must create separate major codes in those cases. The only time you can code a major to be used at both the UG and GR academic levels are if the CIP code is the same for both programs.
