How to Setup Passwordless Multifactor Athentication

Summary

Setup passwordless multifactor authentication (MFA) to improve the login experience.

Body

Features like Multifactor Authentication (MFA) are a great way to secure your organization, but users often get frustrated with the additional security layer on top of having to remember their passwords. Passwordless authentication methods are more convenient because the password is removed and replaced with something you have, plus something you are or something you now. The authenticator app turns any iOS or Android phone into a strong, passworldess credential. Users can sign in to any platform or browser by getting a notification to their phone, matching a number displayed on screen to the one on their phone, and then using their biometric (touch or face) or PIN to confirm.

Setup Passwordless Microsoft Authenticator

  1. Install and setup the authenticator app on your mobile device.
  2. Open the authenticator app and tap on your Sacred Heart account.
  3. Select "Enable Phone Sign-In" and follow the prompts on screen to register your device.
NOTE: This can sometimes take about 5 minutes to sync.
  4. Enter your Sacred Heart University e-mail when prompted.
  5. Before entering your Sacred Heart University password, select Use an app instead.
  6. The prompt will display a two digit code. On the authenticator app, there will be a field to enter the two digit code and a geolocation to confirm the sign in. Enter the code then select Yes.
