How to Use a Laptop Connection in a Classroom

Summary

Step by step instructions for using a laptop connection with a Windows or MacOS laptop in the classrooms.

Body

First ensure the projector and your laptop are turned on. There will either be a remote or touch panel located on the podium. The touch panel could also be located on a nearby wall.

Windows

Connect your Windows laptop using the red HDMI cable and any necessary adapters. Then press the Windows logo key + P at the same time and choose one of the four options.

  • PC Screen Only – Content is only displayed on your laptop. No content is displayed on the projector.
  • Duplicate – The same content is shown on your laptop and the projector.
  • Extend – Different content will be displayed on your laptop and the projector. Items can be moved between both displays.
  • Second screen only – No content is displayed on your laptop. Content is only displayed on the projector.

MacOS

  1. Connect your MacOS laptop using the red HDMI cable. You might also require the use of a Mac adapter cable. If one is unavailable, it is recommended to use the AirMedia connection option on the podium display instead.
  2. Once connected, click the Apple Menu button located in the top-left corner of your laptop screen.
  3. Select System Preferences -> Displays -> Detect Displays
    • For changing the mirroring settings, go to the Displays settings then select the Arrangement tab.
      Select the Mirror Displays box in the lower-left corner of the window. After a few seconds, the same content will be shown on your laptop and the projector.
