A virtual private network (VPN) is a network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure, such as the Internet, to provide remote offices or individual users with secure access to their organization's network.

Sacred Heart University uses GlobalProtect to provide this access.

The following programs and systems require the VPN when being used off-campus:

  • Adobe CS6

  • AOP (Adjunct-Overload Payroll)

  • Network shared folders

  • Reporting Services

  • SPSS Statistics

  • Maple

  • SHUCSD (Computer Science Database Accounts)

How to Access

Who is eligible?

An active staff, faculty, and students. Some vendors.

Where and how do I access it?

  1. Navigate to https://vpn.sacredheart.edu and use your SHU credentials to login.
    • If you are prompted to enable Java, check to the right of the address bar and look for a notification. This will allow you to enable Java to run on this web page.
  2. Download and install the GlobalProtect agent for your operating system.
  3. Open the GlobalProtect App and insert vpn.sacredheart.edu as the portal.
  4. Use your SHU email and password for authentication. You might be prompted for multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  5. Click Connect.
  6. When the connection is complete, read and close the Acceptable Use Policy.
  7. To end the session, click Disconnect on the GlobalProtect app.

The Global Protect App will stay on your computer for the next time you wish to connect. 

Installation Instructions for MacOS 10.15.4 and later

​During the installation of the GlobalProtect VPN on MacOS Catalina 10.15.4 and later, Apple has changed the way that System Extensions operate and require the user to check for GlobalProtect System Extensions during the installation so it can function correctly. Make sure the "GlobalProtect" Install and "GlobalProtect System extensions" are checked during installation.​
