The following are instructions on how to create a TinyURL to be used in the PROG (Academic Program) screen for use in the program description. This allows students and faculty to click a link to take them to the Program of Study for that program in Sharepoint.
Creating a TinyURL for a Program of Study Link
- Log in to the TinyURL website: https://tinyurl.com
- The login is: cataudellav@sacredheart.edu
- Password can be obtained from Vinny Cataudella or Lori-Jo McEwan
- Click the CREATE TINYURL button on the top right
- Copy the long Sharepoint address for the Program of Study you are trying to shorten and paste it on the right in the Shorten a long URL box where it says Enter long link here
- In the Enter alias, enter an abbreviation for the program that you are creating in the following format:
- YYYY where Y represents the year that program of study starts
- SHU for Sacred Heart University
- Abbreviation of program name (for example Sports Management would be shortened to SportMgmt
- So the alias would be for example 2025SHUSportMgmt
- Click the Shorten URL button
- Click the Copy button to copy the new shortened URL
- Insert the copied link into the correct location as outlined in the article: How to Create a New Academic Program on PROG in Colleague
Note that the current subscription for TinyURL is 500 links. When creating new links, it's a good idea to review any older Program of Study links that can be removed.
