How to Check if a Student can Register Without Approval or Requisites in Colleague

First, go in to RGN to see how the student registered for the course section.  If it's STAND, the student registered in person and an override was likely done by the person who registered the student.  If it was done in SPA (World Wide Web) then go in to SPA go to Advising and search for the student by name or student ID.  Go to the Progress tab once you've opened the student's record and check to see if there are any waivers for the prerequisite/corequisites in question.

If the above step does not solve the question of how the student was able to register, next check the course section in Colleague to confirm there are requisites, restrictions or petition required:

  • Log in to Colleague and go to SECT
  • Detail in to Requisites.  Check that Override Requisites is set to N.  If something appears in Requisite Courses, detail in to see the requisite courses are set up correctly and if not, have the Registrar's Office fix the requisites.
  • Go back to the SECT screen and detail in on Restrictions.  If there are Reg Restrictions, detail in on the restriction rule to make sure that the logic is correct.  Also check the flags for Instructor Consent and Petition Required to see if either is set to Yes.

If the above still does not solve the question of how the student was able to register, check to see if the student has a Petition or Requisite Override:

  • Go to the STPE screen and search for the student by name or ID
  • Check to see if there are any petitions added for the student.
  • If none, cancel out of the screen and go to ROVM
  • Search for the student by name or ID number
  • Check the body of the screen to see if any overrides were done and by whom
