Troubleshooting Student Online Registration Issues in SPA

Student is Unable to Register (Button is Grayed Out)

  • Check for an active restriction (PERC)
    • look up the student on the PERC screen
      • if there is an active PERC,  refer the student to the appropriate office to address their active blocks
  • Confirm the student has an actual section on their course plan and not just the course
    • if they don't, they will need to add an actual section being offered during the term they are trying to register for
  • Check registration priority
    • the student may have a registration priority time that has either not yet started or ended before the date they are trying to register
    • look up the student on the SREP screen for the term they are trying to register for
      • If their registration date and time are in the future, the student should get a message indicating when their registration time opens
        • advise the student to wait until their assigned registration time
      • If the student has a registration priority end date that occurs in the past you will need to check the following:
        • If they are trying to make changes and are part of the incoming freshmen or transfer cohort for the term, refer them to the Student Advising & Success Office
        • If they are an existing student and their priority end date occurs in the past for an upcoming term, change the registration priority end date to be after add/drop for the term in which they are trying to register.

Issue - Student receives a "Waitlist Full" error but there are seats available

  • This happens when the Allow Waitlist (SEC.ALLOW.WAITLIST.FLAG) flag is set to Yes or No and the Waitlist Maximum (SEC.WAITLIST.MAX) is set to 0 (zero) on the Section Restrictions (SRES) screen, even if there are no students on the waitlist and the section has available seats

Resolution

  • Remove the zero from the Waitlist Maximum field on the SRES (Section Restrictions) screen, nothing else needs to be done

Issue - Student is unable to register for a course due to a course restriction

  • This happens when a new student type or academic program is added and Admin IT is not notified to add these student types or programs to existing course restriction rules

Resolution

  • Check the rule and if changes are needed submit a ticket to Admin IT to update the rule
