Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is required when resetting your password. You should update your MFA when your information or devices have changed. For example, you have a new phone and need to update MFA to your new phone.
- Go to aka.ms/mfasetup.
- If you do not currently have any MFA methods for your account, you will be prompted to set up MFA for the first time.
- Confirm your SHU account information is displayed in the top-right.
- Confirm you are in the Security info section on the left side.
- Locate the authentication method that you want modified (Microsoft Authenticator, Phone etc).
- Select Change to modify the authentication method information, or Delete to remove that method.
- If you selected Change, follow the on-screen prompts to enter your new information.
- If you selected Delete, select Ok on the pop-up. The method will be removed after a few seconds.
- If you are deleting the Microsoft Authenticator method from a phone, follow the additional steps below.
- Select Delete.
- Select Sign in.
- Enter the displayed number into your Microsoft Authenticator app or use another MFA method by selecting I can't use my Microsoft Authenticator right now.
- If you are not able to use any of your MFA methods, please use our contact info to call or visit in-person for further assistance.
- Use the How to Setup Multifactor Authentication using Authenticator App steps with your current phone.
Note: the university does not currently support email as the primary authentication method. Microsoft Authenticator is the method preferred by the university and is recommended as the default due to being the most secure option available.
