How to Setup Multifactor Authentication using Authenticator App

Installing the Authenticator App

  1. Open the App Store or Google Play store based on your cell phone device. 
  2. Search for "Microsoft Authenticator"
  3. Proceed with the installation. 

Part 2: Connecting the Authenticator App to your Account

  1. On a computer, login to https://aka.ms/mfasetup
  2. Confirm you are in the Security info section on the left hand side. 
  3. Select +Add sign-in Method
  4. From the drop down list, select Authenticator App
    Add a method setting in Microsoft Authenticator with available options.
  5. Proceed through the prompts until you see the QR code. Once the QR code is displayed, open the authenticator app on your phone. 
  6. From the app on your phone, select the + in the top right to add a work or school account. 
    Add account button in Microsoft Authenticator to link the work or school account.
  7. It will take 10-20 seconds to register, follow the prompts on screen. 
  8. On your computer, verify the Default Sign-in method is Microsoft Authenticator in the security info tab.
