How Student Proxy Users Access SPA (Student Planning and Advising)

SPA (Student Planning and Advising) Proxy Access

Students have the ability to grant secure proxy access to non-SHU parties, allowing them to view information about the student. Users can designate one or more persons as a proxy and grant each proxy specific permission to view information, such as providing parents access to grades. Once the student has provided this access, proxy users should follow the steps below.

 

Instructions for Proxy Users

Activate Access

  • Once a student has completed the approval process for a proxy user, two emails will be received: one with the proxy username, the other with the temporary password
  • Go to Student Planning and Advising website: spa.sacredheart.edu
  • Enter the username from the first email
  • Enter the temporary password from the second email
  • You will be required to change the password at this time, enter a new password twice

Log in to SPA (Student Planning & Advising)

  • Go to spa.sacredheart.edu
  • At the prompt below, enter your user name. If you don't remember it, refer to the original email sent with the subject: "Proxy access granted at Sacred Heart University". If the email is not available, click the "Forgot your user name?" link, and see additional instructions below.

  • Next, you will be prompted to enter your password. If you don't remember it, refer to the email sent with the subject: "Temporary password for proxy account at Sacred Heart University". If the email is not available, click the "Forgot your password?" link, and see additional instructions below.

  • Once the username and password have been successfully verified, you will receive a prompt to enter a verification code. Refer to the email sent with the subject: "Your verification code for Sacred Heart University", enter the code provided in the email

  • Once all information is entered correctly, you will be signed into the Student Planning and Advising site as yourself
  • In order to see the student's information, click on the Sign Out button at the top of the screen and select "Change Proxy User"
  • Any student who has given you proxy access to their information will be listed in the Person Proxy window
  • Select the student's name and click Continue
    • If you click your own username, you will not see any student information. If this happens, click on the Sign Out button again and select "Change Proxy User"
  • The options available on the home screen will depend on the access your student approved to be shared with you
    • For example, if you have been given access to view grades, you will see a Grades button; click on it to see the student's grades
  • To view a different person's information, click on the "Change User" button at the top of the screen
  • When done, click the "Sign out" button at the top of the window

Assistance with Proxy Access

Forgot User name

If a proxy user forgets their user name, they can click the "Forgot your user name?" link on the sign-on page to recover it. If the link is not displayed, press the refresh icon in the web browser.

Enter the following information, which must match the information originally submitted by the student. If not sure of this information, review the original email received when access was granted.

  • First Name (optional)
  • Last Name (required)
  • Email Address (required)

Once the information is verified, the following will be displayed.

An email will be sent to the proxy user at the email address entered above with their username.

 

Forgot Password

If a proxy user forgets their password, they can click the "Forgot your password?" link on the sign-on page to reset it. If the link is not displayed, press the refresh icon in the web browser.

Enter the following information; the email address must match the information originally submitted by the student.

  • User Name (required)
  • Email Address (required)

Once the information is verified, the following will be displayed.

An email will be sent to the proxy user at the email address entered above with a link to reset the password.

When the password is successfully changed, the following message will be displayed.

Once it has been changed, a second email confirming the password change will be sent to the proxy user.
